Evin O'Brien
Guitar Teacher
Evin O’Brien is a guitarist, composer and teacher from Dublin, Ireland. He holds a BA (Hons) in Jazz Performance from Newpark Music Centre (2017) where he studied under guitarist Tommy Halferty. Evin also received tuition in classical and flamenco guitar under Leslie Cassidy at DIT Conservatory of Music and Drama (2013 – 2016). He has attended master classes with Juan Martin, Berta Rojas and Bill Frissell.
In 2020, Evin completed a Higher Certificate in Music Production for Video Games and subsequently, a Higher Diploma in Scoring for Film, TV & Interactive Media in 2024, at Griffith/Pulse College. He is currently pursuing a Masters in Music Composition at the University of Malta.
Evin is a regular contributor to the live music scene in Dublin. He enjoys playing with his gypsy jazz ensemble The Tenters Quintet enjoys and he performs original music with his trip-rock band Big Fridge as well as his experimental post-jazz ensemble.
In 2021, Evin was awarded the Music Agility award by the Irish Arts Council to create a series of original arrangements of Irish traditional music for classical guitar.
As a composer Evin seeks to create music that is harmonically rich and filled with a strong sense of atmosphere. His experience composing and arranging music for a variety of ensembles has provided him a wealth of knowledge in a diverse range of musical styles and genres.
Evin provides tuition in the following genres: Jazz, rock, pop, funk, country, classical, flamenco and traditional Irish. As a teacher, he hopes to inspire a love of music in his students, by teaching them to play music through the music they are familiar with and love. Every student is unique in their taste and goals and therefore requires a personalized approach tailor made for each student.
